Rapa Nui is characterized by its unique cultural tourism in the world, has numerous archaeological sites, within what is known as the Rapa Nui National Park, which covers more than 40% of the surface of the island and is currently managed by the Ma’u Henua indigenous community.
It should be noted that since December 1995 it has been considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. These archaeological sites, framed within nature and impressive landscapes with the sea in the background, offer a wide variety of activities to enjoy and live a magical experience in the navel of the world.
– Visits to Archaeological Sites: it is possible to do them by hiring guided tours offered by the different local agencies, or independently renting a car, motorcycle or bicycle. In any of these possibilities it is mandatory to have the entry ticket to the Rapa Nui National Park.
– Trekking: There are multiple routes for this activity, the most famous being the ascent to Terevaka, the Rano Kau viewpoint and the route to visit Ana Te Pahu, Ana te Pora and Ana Kakenga Caverns. Other possibilities are Poike and Hanga or Teo. Beyond the sporting experience, there is the discovery of archaeological sites and the learning of Rapa Nui history and culture, so it is advisable to be accompanied by a guide.
– Horseback riding: The ascent to the Terevaka, from Ahu Akivi, and the route to Anakena by Hanga or Teo stand out.
– Boat trips: Among the available options are the Motu tour, 3 islets in front of Orongo, sailboat rides around the island and for the most adventurous ancestral fishing trips.
– Diving and snorkeling: The sea of Rapa Nui is ruled out by the exceptional visibility of its waters, its pleasant temperature and endemic fauna. There are numerous points to develop these activities for those who do it for the first time, as well as for the most experienced, it is enough to consult in one of the specialized centers.
